As a small business owner, there are so many milestones on our journey that we grow through. I remember when I first started my business almost 8 years ago now, right in the middle of the GFC, working day and night from my dining room table, with Oliver the cat keeping me company as I furiously worked away on client designs until 2am in the morning.
Today 8 years later things are a little different, well except for the 2am finishes they still happen everything few weeks - but that's the life of a marketing geek and I wouldn't want to have it any other way.
But since those early days when I started the business, I have experienced so many changes and milestones along the way, from winning my first major client in 2009 to in 2014 hiring my first team member. In 2015 I underwent a huge change, deciding to rebrand my business from Facet Marketing, to our new name - Polished Marketing. It was a big decision and one that I did not make lightly... But it was definitely the right one!
Fast forward to 2016 and with a team of 3 designers plus 2 extra copywriters, and knowing another staff member was on the cards, I finally felt that after all these years it was time to take the business to the next level and move from a home based business to our very own office.
That decision was almost as terrifying as when I decided to go out on my own and start the business all those years ago. I selected the ideal area to be the home of our new office - a location central to the team and to our clients in Hawthorne/Bulimba and began the search.
I could not have imagined how lucky we would be with our office search, finding a space so brilliantly perfect for us it was like it created just for our team. As soon as I walked into the building I knew it had to be ours. Shopping for the perfect furniture was easy and everything just appeared! Now just 2 months into our lease, everything is almost complete with just the artwork to go and then our new home is 'finished'. We have even welcomed another new member to our growing team at the same time so it's a buzzing little place now with so many of us working there.
All of this was so exciting... But there was something about the moment when last week, our signage went up on the outside of the building that just really got me. Standing in front of this beautiful office, with my amazing team in side who are as passionate about our work as I am, and knowing our beautiful clients - most of whom we have worked with for many, many years, supporting us is just an amazing feat for the lass who decided to start her own agency, in the middle of the GFC, at her dining room table all those years ago. I am so proud and so thankful for this journey.
A special thank you also has to go to my wonderful family and friends who have always been such pillars of support, and to my beautiful, amazing husband - I could not have done it without you!
So here's to a wonderful 8 years in business.... I can not wait to see what the future holds for our passionate little team and can't wait to experience all the milestones to come!
